The inspiration for Jiao Tang's design stems from the human exploration of Neptune, as resources on Earth become increasingly scarce. The restaurant's dominant hue, International Klein Blue, represents the severe weather and life marks on Neptune. The interactive artistic mechanical devices and ceiling lamps, designed with the concept of Prince Rupert's Drop, further highlight the mystery of the creatures on Neptune.
Located in a commercial complex in the new area of Chengdu, Sichuan, Jiao Tang covers a floor area of 506 square meters. The design team aimed to redefine the dining space by creating a dramatic five-sense experience. This was achieved by incorporating elements from film and television, art, science, technology, and design, resulting in an all-around sensory upgrade.
The realization of this unique dining space involved the use of advanced technologies. Mechanical device models were made using 3D printing technology, while lamps were made using modeling and turnover technology. The multifunctional dining table was a unique design, and innovative material arrangement was applied, earning the design team several patents.
Despite being located in an urban development area with low customer flow during weekdays, Jiao Tang has managed to attract a steady stream of customers. This success can be attributed to the restaurant's unique design, which breaks away from traditional dining space patterns and insists on originality. The immersive, narrative, and creative dining space design has proven to be a hit among Chengdu's energetic young generation.
The design of Jiao Tang is a testament to the power of innovation and the potential of technology in transforming spaces. It serves as an example of how design can be used to create unique experiences, transcending the ordinary and taking customers on a journey to another planet. The success of Jiao Tang is a testament to the power of innovative design and its ability to captivate audiences and transform spaces.
